The main problem that most weight watchers face is that they don’t know what to eat and what not to eat. I have come up with a list of foods to eat and foods to avoid.
Alcohol is bad, but an occasional drink is fine
Alcohol should top your list of foods to avoid, but an occasional drink is completely fine. Don’t make it a habit though. Studies reveal that our liver is capable of removing up to two servings of wine or beer per day. Limit your intake of carbohydrates if you are planning to have a drink.
You can’t eat everything just because you exercise
Just because you lift some weights and go for a walk, you can’t eat everything on your plate or on the table. Exercise helps burn the calories, but if you don’t watch what you eat, no amount of physical exertion will save your waistline. If losing weight is your objective, you need to burn more calories than you consume.
Stop that war on carbs
Many people try to avoid carbohydrates when they are on a diet. But that is not right. Carbs are your best friends. In fact, our body is designed to subsist on carbohydrates. So include whole grains, whole wheat, and potatoes in your diet. Whole grains are rich in fibers and even a small portion will keep your stomach full.
Eat nuts in small quantities
Nuts are good sources of monounsaturated fats, proteins, folic acid, Vitamin E, and minerals like magnesium and copper. They are also rich in antioxidants. The proteins found in nuts keep your blood sugar levels even, making you feel satisfied. However, watch your portions. Nuts are good only when they are consumed in small quantities.
Don’t cut calories drastically
You need calories to function properly. Ultra-low-calorie diets will only make you tired and lethargic. If staying fit is your ultimate goal, you must eat a balanced diet and get physically active.
Red meat is okay
If you have already included red meat in your list of foods to avoid, you need to think again. Red meat is rich in iron, proteins and zinc, so you don’t have to avoid it altogether. Lean meat eaten in small servings is actually good for you. Eat red meat with foods rich in Vitamin C. It helps the body to absorb more iron.
