Bad habits like drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. are incredibly difficult to break. There’s a reason that so many resources have been put in place over the years to help people deal with their cravings for their bad habits.
Breaking your bad habits are essential if you want to take control of your life and begin living the life that you were meant to live. It’s not until you take control of your life that you’ll have the strength and confidence you need to reach your full potential in life.
Here’s a look at how to avoid bad habits and how you can start taking control of your life:
1) Start Blaming Your Habits For Everything Wrong In Your Life
This is, without a doubt, the most effective way to stop bad habits and to start taking control of your actions. Start associating every bad habit in your life with every bad thing that’s ever happened in your life. From why you were sick last Tuesday to why you stubbed your toe this morning, doing this will start making you think completely different about your habit.
This is extremely effective for people that smoke cigarettes, which is historically one of the toughest bad habits to quit. Start blaming every bad thing that’s ever happened in your life on the fact that you smoke cigarettes. What it does to you physiologically is pretty impressive and you’ll start to see a difference almost immediately.
2) Stay Away From People Who Have the Bad Habits
You’re going to act like the people that you’re around, no matter how hard you try not to. I once read a quote that said, ‘You are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with.’ That statement couldn’t be any more true. If all your friends are doing drugs, drinking too much, and/or are consistently unemployed, than there’s a very good chance that you’re going to have traits similar to them.
Listen, I know you’re probably thinking that there is no way that you can just give up your friends, no matter how much they may drag you down. Bros for life right? Well, unfortunately, it’s necessary for you to take control of your life and cut ties with those people holding you down. I’m aware that it’s extremely uncomfortable for you, but it’s also extremely necessary.
3) Don’t Start in the First Place
Yeah, this one is a no brainer and is your safest bet for how to avoid bad habits. Don’t start the habit in the first place. It’s an obvious solution before the problem, but one that I think everyone needs to be reminded of.
