Going to a salon for a pedicure is such a pain- especially because of their skyrocketing prices. It is much easier and better to have a pedicure at home. Why hide your feet inside boots when you can let them be free for everyone to admire? Here are some tips for a great pedicure at home.
Start with removing residual nail polish from the last pedicure.
Before you start exfoliating, soak your feet and trim your toenails so that the enamel and skin become soft. Make sure to add milk to the water as lactic acid loosens dead skin cells. It is best to soak your feet for about 5 minutes, but if your feet are cracked, soak them longer.
After you’ve soaked your feet enough, take a pumice bar and rub away any rough skin patches. If you can get a soft pumice bar instead of the steel or stone one.
Once you have done exfoliating, dry your feet carefully- especially the parts between toes.
Rub a little moisturizing foot cream but do not apply it between your toes else you will have higher chances of getting fungal infection.
It’s time to cut nails. Cut them just above the line of skin so that there are no ingrown nails. Your toenails should never extend beyond your toes. For filing, skip the steel nail file and use an emery board instead.
Use cuticle remover at the base of the nails and gently rub it in. Then leave it on for about a minute.
Take a rubber or wooden cuticle stick and gently push the cuticles back. A good cuticle stick is a small one with rounded edges and flat tip.
When you push the cuticle back, make sure you hold the stick at an angle to prevent any jabs. Don’t touch the flesh of the toe. Pushing back of cuticles should be an easy and painless process. It should not bleed or cause any pain. If you experience pain or bleeding, you are doing it wrong.
If you have toenail fungus, do not wear colored nail polish to conceal it. Instead, use clear antimicrobial nail polish that will help the nail to heal and let you keep an eye on the recovery process.
Before polishing, remove any parts of cuticle remover from nails by using non-acetone nail polish remover.
When you shake your nail polish bottle, it can develop bubbles. It is better to roll the bottle between your hands instead of shaking it hard.
When you apply nail polish, stay away from drafts, air conditioners, and fans- as it can cause bubbling.
